1950 ad: Allsweet vegetable oleomargarine

Taste Allsweet and taste the difference. Delicate natural flavor! No artificial flavoring ever. A Swift Quality Food. 32 states and the District of Columbia now permit the sale of colored margarine. There Allsweet is sold in yellow quarters, all ready for your table. Of course it is also sold white as elsewhere.

It is amazing to me that there was a time when margarine was sold with separate food coloring that you had to mix in yourself -- and people were excited when they could finally get the stuff precolored.

Nowadays just about  everything is filled with artificial colors and flavors and mostly people put up with it. But those artificial colors would never be used as a selling point.
